Important citizen Academy Notes, Rules and Regulations
- Classes and activities will start promptly at the designated time on the course schedule. Please, be on time, and be prepared to participate.
- We recommend that casual, comfortable clothing be worn for all classes. Tank tops and sandals are not suggested. Your attire during the ride-along program should be in good taste and present a professional appearance.
- Members are encouraged to participate in the classroom discussion and offer their perspective on the subjects under discussion.
- "Participant" badges will be distributed during the first class. Members will wear the "participant" badges at all times while participating in any class or exercise. Lost, stolen, or damaged badges must be reported promptly for a replacement. "Participant" badges are to be turned in at the end of the program to be used by future sessions.
- Every effort will be made to ensure that there is a short break during the classroom session. Members may, at any time, leave the room to use the restrooms.
- Feel free to eat or drink in the classroom, but please leave it as you found it. Drink machines are located in the lobby area. A restroom is located in the lobby area.
- Evaluations will be conducted throughout the Citizen Academy to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the instruction and improve future classes. Please, be honest on the evaluations.
- A ride-along with a patrol officer is highly recommended to enhance the student’s understanding of an officer’s job and responsibilities. Ride-alongs can be arranged with Captain Brown. Department policy allows only two riders per shift.
- Graduation from the Citizen Academy will require attendance of a minimum of eight of the ten classes.
- Upon completion of the Citizen Academy, members will be awarded a "Certificate of Graduation."
