Minot Mayor issues writing challenge to Minot 5th graders

Minot Mayor Chuck Barney wants Minot’s youth to be part of Minot’s inaugural State of the City event in early 2018.

In fact, the mayor has issued a writing challenge to all Minot fifth-graders.

“We want to hear from the youth of our community, and that’s why I’d like to challenge all Minot fifth-graders to write about why they love calling Minot their home in 350 to 500 words,” Barney said. “There are so many great things happening in our community, and I’ll be very interested to hear about Minot from the perspective of our fifth-graders.”

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 19, 2018.

The winner will be invited by the Mayor to read their essay at the State of the City event scheduled for early February. Other top essays will also be on display at the event. More details will be posted on the City of Minot website at www.minotnd.org.

“This is our first-ever State of the City event, and we think it’s important for the youth of our community to be represented at the event,” Barney said. “We’re thrilled to partner with all of the school systems serving Minot to provide the opportunity for students to tell us why they love Minot.”
