The Minot Municipal Auditorium underwent a major facelift with the installation of new seating in the arena’s upper level.
The new blue seats replace both the old wooden seats and the metal, multi-colored bench-style seating that made up the upper level. The original wooden seats were installed in the early 1950s, according to Scott Collins, recreation/auditorium director for the City of Minot. The multi-colored aluminum bleachers were installed in the 1970s.
“Updating the seating in the top half of the Auditorium is something that was long overdue,” said Collins. “The Auditorium continues to be a busy venue for area sports teams and a wide variety of other events, and the new seating provides a more comfortable and modern atmosphere.”
As part of the $428,000 project, a total of 2,821 new seats were installed this fall, a reduction of approximately 20 seats. Collins said the new seats are slightly wider than the old ones.
“We expect the Auditorium will continue to be home to all kinds of events well into the future, and the updated seating will help us continue to attract local, regional and state-wide events to our facility,” Collins said.
