Construction projects nearing end for 2017

Broadway Bridge

Work on the new east Broadway Bridge will be reaching key milestones in the upcoming weeks. The contractor plans to make the first concrete pour to begin forming the deck (roadway surface) of the bridge within the first 10 days of October. Five separate pours are set up to form the roadway surface, along with separate pours to form the approaches on the north and south ends of the bridge. Lunda Construction has a schedule set up to finish pouring concrete in the first days of November that would allow them to open up the bridge before winter settles in.

East Burdick Expressway

New concrete road and curb and gutter has been completed between 13th Street SE and 15th Street SE, with work under way on sidewalks on those two blocks. Underground work is nearing completion between 11th Street SE and 9th Street SE, with concrete work anticipated to start on those two blocks in the next week to 10 days. Temporary traffic signals have been installed at the intersection of 13th Street SE and Valley Street, and at 27th Street SE and Valley Street to help manage the traffic. The project has an overall completion date of late October.

Bypass construction project

The deck pour for the CP Rail Bridge was done on Oct. 4, beginning at 5 a.m. Minot Paving began paving 21st Avenue NW west of the Bypass in early October. Contractors hope to have all bridge work done by Oct. 28. Once 21st Avenue NW is paved, the contractor will try to get as much paving done this year as weather allows. Winter suspension is still scheduled for Nov. 12. If weather allows, the contractor may do additional work after that date.

South Hill Softball Complex fields

Crews have finished installing the new artificial turf field on the Eagles Field at the South Hill Softball Complex, and work is under way on installing the new turf on the adjacent KC Field. Work is expected to be complete on the KC Field in the next couple of weeks. New concrete block dugouts have been constructed, and new fence has been installed on both fields. Both fields are expected to be ready for use by the spring of 2018.

New seating at Municipal Auditorium

Crews have removed all of the old wooden seats in the upper portion of the Auditorium, along with the metal bleachers. New seats are being installed in the entire upper portion of the Auditorium, with crews beginning placement of the new seats in late September.
