The Minot Public Library is now much closer to opening its tool lending library thanks to a generous donation from North Dakota Guaranty & Title Co. The donation consisted of new and like-new tools, including an electric pole saw, an angle grinder, an orbit sander, and a lawn spreader. The value of the donation is estimated over $400.
North Dakota Guaranty & Title Co. believes in the importance of giving back to the communities it serves, as evidenced by the contributions it gives to local charities every month. For the month of September, the Minot Public Library was chosen to be a recipient. Employee Minda Stockdill believes the tool library is worthy of her company’s support. “[The tool lending program] will help promote self-sufficiency in our community and will inspire residents to help build a better world,” Stockdill said.
The Minot Public Library held a successful tool drive on Sept. 1; more than 100 gently-used tools were donated to the tool library. The donated tools include circular saws, hammers, power drills, and more. Even if you missed the tool drive there is still time to donate tools. The Minot Public Library is currently accepting donations of tools in good working condition during its normal hours of operation. Gardening tools like shovels and rakes are especially appreciated at this time. A full list of tools needed to complete the library’s inventory is available online at http://bit.ly/2fxGCsD.
All donated tools will be available to Minot Public Library patrons to borrow for free. The mission of the tool library is to promote self-sufficiency among Minot residents, inspiring them to make home improvements or to take up a new hobby. The tool library also aims to facilitate more neighborhood beautification projects by lending gardening and landscaping tools to church and service groups.
The Minot Tool Library is a program started by the Minot Public Library and the Resilience AmeriCorps VISTAs, with sponsorship from Val’s Cyclery and Habitat for Humanity. The Minot Public Library will start its tool lending service later this year. For more information, please call 701-420-4521.
