Board of Appeals

The Board of Appeals consists of five members with professional expertise in construction and/or code-related areas. The Mayor appoints all members to five-year terms. The board works with the City's Inspections Department on construction-related and design-related code issues.

Schedule & Location

The Board's meeting shall be scheduled by the city Clerk. The location of hearing is:

Board of Appeal Duties

The Board's work focuses on the following areas:

  • Requests for interpretation of codes from members of the public who feel that the Building Official has made an error in an inspection or denying a permit or application of a code requirement.

  • Standards related to accessibility, materials used in construction and fire sprinkler requirements.

If you would like to file an appeal on a code issue fill in the required form called the Notice of Appeal, Also submit a $50 filing fee to the Inspections Department. You will be placed on the agenda for the next meeting as long as we receive the paperwork at least 10 days before the meeting. We need this amount of time to notify you, board members and staff of agenda items.
