The patrol division is made up of three 10 hour shifts that operate around the clock. The patrol shifts are comprised of one lieutenant, two or three patrol sergeants and ten patrol officers. Each shift also has four permanent communications dispatch officers who answer the radio and telephones.
The Day shift operates from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and is overseen by Lt. Steve Whitesell. Patrol Sergeants Dan Maroney, Dale Plessas and Shannon Lackey are assigned to this shift and assist in supervising the patrol units.
The Afternoon shift operates from 5:00 pm to 3:00 am and is overseen by Lt. Shane Haug. Patrol Sergeants Paul Burns, Kevin Wilk and Jessica Sundheim are assigned to this shift and assist in supervising the patrol units.
The Night shift is operates from10:00 pm to 8:00 am and is overseen by Lt. Scot Redding. Patrol Sergeants Dave Chapman and Steve Schoenrock are assigned to this shift and assist in supervising the patrol units.
The Minot Police Department has two animal control officers and one parking control officer who are normally assigned to the day and afternoon shifts.
The purpose of the Patrol Division is to provide protection of citizens and property through the community caretaker role by maintaining good public relations.
The duties of the patrol division include:
Responding to requests for service from the general public.
Apprehending persons who have committed or are committing crimes.
Enforcing state laws and city ordinances.
Investigating traffic accidents, traffic complaints and conducting traffic
Maintaining order in the community by controlling disputes, disturbances,
situations and behavior which tend to breach public order
Providing services in response to needs of the community for assistance,
including searching for lost persons and property, abating nuisances,
giving directions and advice and rendering first aid.
