North Dakota State Law

North Dakota State Law requires drivers to treat a ‘dark’ signalized intersection as an “all-way” stop. A ‘dark’ intersection is any signalized intersection where all indications (red, yellow and green) are not lit, for example, in the event of a power outage.

The provisions of North Dakota Century Code, Section 39-10-22, exist to make intersections as safe as possible when intersections are dark. Drivers are asked to share this important safety message with family, friends and co-workers.
